Lying on the beach, I stretched to point my face over my right shoulder, searching for the sun to warm my cheeks. The sand sifted, surrendering to the curves of my back and feet as I swayed my bent upright knees to the rhythm of my ipod. Nikka Costa's, "Everybody's Got Their Something," flowed from the ear buds, encouraging furthermore a sense of euphoria that I had found while enjoying this hot February day alone on the beach.
Occasionally I peered through my squinting eyelids to reveal paleblue sky on dark blue ocean and a game of bocci ball being played on sand closer to the ocean's edge.
After getting my fill of relaxation, sun, and feel-good music, I stood and grabbed my orange baithing suit cover, shaking off the sand. I paused for a moment, looking overthe towel spotted beach and then out to the ocean. The corners of my mouth turned until my lips parted. This must be true happiness, I thought. Smiling when no one is there to see it.
